What to expect?

It is important to tailor your services to the needs, concerns or challenges of your target group. In the online and physical "Toolbox Human-Centered Design", you will find a lot of information on how to make your services more customer-centric. This will enable you to involve your target group from day one, conduct research and come up with solutions that truly meet their needs.

In this training, we will explore the six steps of the human-centered design process together. We'll teach you all the tricks from the toolbox so that you and your team can take a flying start.

One this is for sure: you will leave the training with not just new knowledge, but also concrete tools and actions to start working in a more customer-centric way.

What does the training contain?

Actively familiarise yourself with the principles of human-centred design and the contents of the toolbox.

Methods and techniques to approach service design in a human-centered way within your own organisation and get your colleagues on board.

Personal guidance with an intake conversation and two coaching sessions by the makers of the toolbox.

Who will benefit from this training?

This training is for anyone working in a government context who sets up or manages projects and services and wants to take a more customer-centric approach.

No prior experience in user research, co-creation, or design is needed—just a strong eagerness to dive into the toolbox and get started!

The programme

Intake interview (20 minutes - online)

  • What are your challenges and expectations regarding human-centered design?
  • Choose a specific challenge to start with.

Training (1 day in Ghent)

  • Get to know the physical and online Human-Centered Design toolbox.
  • Use the various components of the toolbox to explore the six steps of the process.
  • Take the first steps towards a successful project with solid preparation.
  • Explore different research methods, choose one that fits and make a plan.
  • Convert the information from your research into concrete and useful insights.
  • Discover how you will come up with ideas for a suitable solution and then make them tangible.
  • Plan an experiment so you can test your solution with real users.
  • Determine the next steps in your project and how you can convince the necessary colleagues.
  • We will finish with a concrete action plan to tackle future challenges.

Coaching sessions (2 x 45 minutes - online)

  • After the training, don't sit there with your questions, concerns and plans, but present them to an experienced coach.
    • Session 1: What do you want to achieve in your organisation and how are you going to go about it?
    • Session 2: Evaluate your progress and determine your next steps.

Practical information

  • This training is led by our service designers from Knight Moves, the creators of the Toolbox, with hands-on experience designing services with various local governments.
  • We believe in a personal approach, which is why we keep the group intentionally small.
  • The full training and materials will be delivered in Dutch.
  • The training will take place on Thursday 8 May 2025, from 9:30 to 16:30, in our workshop space in Ghent.
  • The intake interview lasts 20 minutes and takes place via Teams at least 1 week before the start of the training.
  • After the training, you can schedule two 45-minute online coaching sessions with the service designers.
